ELD - STANDARDS-BASED DIFFERENTIATED ELD INSTRUCTION

Standard-Based Differentiated ELD Instruction - Home

A comprehensive professional development program for educators of English Learners to meet key performance outcomes:

  1. Effective and consistent standards-based differentiated ELD instruction that ensures high academic achievement for all English Learners.
  2. Essential knowledge base, skills and processes that enables teachers and administrators to develop and implement a superior classroom and school-wide ELD program.
  3. Leadership and capacity-building that strengthen the school community to sustain and academically rigorous ELD program.

CLMER Standard-Based Differentiated ELD Instruction Professional Development includes up to two years of modules for lasting change and improvements:

YEAR ONE

  • Completion of an ELD Professional Development Needs Assessment
  • Understanding of Language Development Processes and Instructional Implications
  • Use of ELD Standards as Pathways to Academic Achievement
  • Matching Instructional Strategies to English Learners’ Assessed ELD levels
  • Clustering ELD and ELA Standards and Designing Lessons across ELD Proficiency Levels
  • Use of Flexible Grouping to Organize Differentiated ELD Instruction
  • Formal and Informal Assessment to inform Curricular Planning and Instruction
  • Thematic Unit Planning and Teaching
  • Classroom Observations, Modeling of Practices and Mentor Coaching
  • Development of a School-Wide ELD Program Action Plan

YEAR TWO

  • Implementation of a School-Wide ELD Program Action Plan
  • Understanding of Authentic Performance-Based Assessment through Student Work
  • Calibration and Application of Standards-Based Assessment
  • Vertical and Horizontal Articulation of Assessments
  • Integration and Alignment of ELD and ELA Standards and Thematic Teaching
  • Development and Implementation of Thematic ELD Units
  • On-site ELD Instruction Modeling and Coaching

Standards-Based Differentiated ELD Instruction

CLMER’s professional development program enables teachers to provide appropriate differentiated ELD instruction at students’ assessed language proficiency levels in all types of classroom situations:

  • Elementary
  • Secondary
  • Mainstream
  • SEI
  • ESL
  • Bilingual
  • Two-Way Immersion

CLMER professional development specialists provide on-site coaching and modeling to the teacher participants and facilitate peer coaching among the teacher participants.

Participants produce and implement a school-wide ELD program action plan.
