collage of handsCLMER provides expertise and assistance in professional development, program development, evaluation, research and policy development in the following broad Areas of Work:

Multicultural Education - developing formal and informal learning environments that are multilingual, multicultural and democratic, and that are designed based on sound teaching and learning theories, as well as evidence- and research-based practices.

School Improvement - engaging in systemic, diversity-responsive, transformational change in public education, with a special focus on high-priority, underperforming schools and districts as well as on innovative approaches to multilingual and multicultural education, such as the development of Two-Way Bilingual Immersion Programs.

Teacher Preparation - providing a range of ongoing in-depth professional development and mentoring opportunities as well as pre-service and in-service certification programs for teachers, and providing professional development opportunities as well for parents, administrators, paraprofessionals, school board members and other key stakeholders.

School-Home-Community - facilitating meaningful and effective school-home-community collaborations among diverse parents, community members and educators with a key focus on creating a level playing field for collaboration among these diverse groups in order to help children, families and communities reach their fullest potential; engaging as well in projects and services that involve out-of-school learning and other forms of community development, including the design and delivery of comprehensive health and social services, workforce development, community technology access and use, and other related community development opportunities.

Leadership & Policy - developing multicultural leadership skills in students, parents, teachers, administrators, school staff, university faculty/staff, community-based/nonprofit personnel and other key community members; and linking effective leadership to research and promising practices for the development of policies and practices that support the ultimate aim of an inclusive, creative, democratic society.

Civil Rights - engaging in research, policy work and the development and dissemination of promising practices that promote civil liberties and civil rights, especially for traditionally underserved and/or underrepresented individuals and communities.

Digital Equity - responding to and providing leadership for addressing both the threats and opportunities of digital transformations of public education, jobs, civic engagement and global relations through critical inquiry, proactive visioning and the development of projects and services that help to promote equity in a digital age.

These broad Areas of Work are meant to serve as a guides to help you navigate and understand CLMER's work and to easily find projects or services relevant to your needs and interests. CLMER projects and services cross-cut these areas. Neither are we limited to working only in these Areas. Feel free to contact us if you feel we have expertise or resources that will help you.
